Lionel Greenberg (50) is a keen hiker and athlete, who enjoys the Drakensberg and has completed both the Comrades and Two Oceans Marathons several times.

Lionel was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in October 2005.He was treated with a combination of chemotherapy and Mabthera (a targeted therapy), which greatly improves the success of patients treatment.

In March 2010, he was pronounced to be technically in remission.  Today Lionel has a better appreciation of life.

Lionel says that his illness has been a great learning curve because “it makes you see life exactly as it is”. He advises that through it all you have to remain positive because it all boils down to attitude, resilience and positivity despite the hardships and the physical and emotional rollercoaster ride that characterises the journey that is cancer. “You have to tell yourself that you will make it,” he concludes.
